Back On The Wagon

So after a brief hiatus, I am back on the workout wagon. Tuesday night I ran 4 miles and then walked another mile while talking to my mom on the phone (she is the only one I could call that wouldn’t mind me huffing and puffing on the phone ;)) I am not sure if I need new shoes, or it has just been too long, but my hips were ridiculously tight after this run so I made sure to do some extra stretches to alleviate some of the tightness. Usually after I run I do a couple sun salutations to regulate my breathing and then flow into some crescent lunges, downward dog splits, and whatever feels like it needs to be stretched after that. My hamstrings get pretty tight as well so I make sure to properly stretch them out afterwards (downward dog feels like heaven on my hamstrings after a long run). Since my hips were so tight I spent quite a bit of time in pigeon pose.

Last night I was craving some deep stretching so I did my current favourite yoga video.

This video is amazing when you are craving a full body workout full of deep stretching. Both times I have done it I have had such a yoga high and come out of my yoga room smiling like a goober :P. Tonight I plan on running an easy 5 km so I am putting this up here for you all to make me accountable so I will follow through. Please help! Brian and I have been PVRing America’s Most Wanted so most nights we watch that and eat chips instead of working out ha ha #fitnessfail

In other news I am IN LOVE with my new shirts that I ordered online. I have worn the white one two days in a row but with different accessories so I don’t think anyone really notices? If they do they haven’t said anything so I am fine with it 😛

Hope you all have a great day!

Yoga Butt

Hi friends! How is your Thursday going? Got to love those short weeks hey? Cannot believe it is almost Friday!

I have recently claimed our downstairs living room for my workouts since we don’t have a/c and our upstairs holds heat like a sauna. The room was supposed to be Brian’s man cave so it is covered with sports memorabilia but there is no TV so he is never down there. Perfect opportunity for me to swoop in with my yoga mat 😉

I mainly do yoga down with a set up that almost always looks like this:

mika

Mika loves her some yoga! Must be from all the energy and calm vibes! If I roll out my mat, guaranteed she will be laying right there. This arrangement doesn’t work very well when I am doing a circuit though, she doesn’t know where to stand because I am moving around so much. And unfortunately there have been a couple times where she was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time during a burpee 😦

I did this Vinyasa Flow  last night. It is one of my favourites when I want a good full body sweat, and last night was one of the first times that I actually felt stronger doing it which was amazing! It involves A LOT of chaturanga to upward facing dog to downward facing dog and I kept breathing through my nose the whole time. As well, wheel pose on its own usually gets me but this flow has two back-to-back wheel poses and in the second one you alternate holding each leg up in the air. I think my arms have developed new muscles and my legs have become a lot stronger, especially in crescent lunge pose. Sorry for all the yoga talk but I am just so excited!

Also last night after yoga Brian commented that I had a yoga butt. I don’t know what that means but I’m going to take it as a compliment?

Did you workout last night? What is the pose in yoga that you are working towards getting to?
