Blame the Hormones

Hey Y’all!

Birthday potluck was a slamming success. I ended up getting TWO cakes (one ice cream and one homemade gluten free, fairy free, white chocolate blueberry creation that my sister made), and we all stuffed our faces with moose meatballs, kale and cabbage salad, brussels sprouts with bacon, and whipped potatoes. And like always my family has the weirdest table talk that I would not trade for anything. You have to see it to know what I am talking about.

My amazing birthday meal ended with me doing a demonstration on how my snoogle works. For all those who are curious a snoogle is a pregnancy pillow that looks like this:

snoogleMy step-dad and brother in-law are now going to buy one. I had them green with envy. But in all seriousness, this pillow is amazing and I slept like a baby last night. It was like a giant pillow hug that encircled my whole body!

In other (not surprising) news I am still demolishing books like it is my job. I am really digging YA novels, paranormal romances, and books along the lines of Fifty Shades of Grey. Don’t hate me. I am blaming my pregnancy hormones for my recent taste in books. Sure there have been some AWFUL ones along my way but there were also some surprisingly good ones too! I have been scouring to get some new book ideas and some of the reviews make my entire day. For example, I stumbled upon Bared to You by Sylvia Day and was like okay let’s see what this has going for it. The first review (by a girl named Katrina) had me on the floor dying from laughter. Treat Yourself Tuesday

Well it is time for another round of Treat Yourself Tuesday! Thanks to Becky over at Olives ‘n Wine for the link up!

TreatyoselfIt has been awhile since I have done one of these, but with the traveling I did last month I sure did a lot of treating myself!

This included sunbathing in Phoenix,

having lots of girl time in Whistler,

photo 4(4)and over indulging in the Christmas baking that I did on the weekend.

I love the concept of this weekly link up because especially around the holidays, it is easy to get swept up in spending money, getting stressed out, and letting the weather get you down. It is important for your sanity, and for the people that are around you too, that you take some much-deserved “me time” and do something that you enjoy. Whether it be getting a hot drink and browsing a book store, having a bubble bath, spending more time at the gym, or even something as low-key as watching a cheesy rom-com. Do whatever makes you happy, because in the end the only one that will suffer if you don’t take care of yourself is you.

Treat Yourself Tuesday

Hello all! I am sorry for my brief hiatus from the blog, things just got a bit cray over the weekend then add in daylight savings time and that equals one moody Tawny. But today is special because it is Treat Yourself Tuesday which is hosted by Becky over at Olives ‘n Wine. The weekly link up is all about treating yourself (however big or small) and that is why I love linking up to it 😉



How have I treated myself lately? Well I have not worked out AT ALL since my long run last Sunday. I am not sure why but each day something came up to eat into my workout time. And then we traveled to Edmonton Thursday after work and didn’t get home until Sunday evening due to ridiculously bad roads that almost doubled our travel time. I brought my workout gear to the in-laws but that never happened. A lot of pizza and cake happened though to celebrate my father in-law’s retirement so I don’t feel bad because it was for a good cause 😛

This week off from working out is not the only way I have been treating myself however. I recently had 4 inches of my hair cut off and it feels A LOT better. It is still pretty long but the ends are not straw-like anymore which is always nice.



I also treated myself and had my very first online shopping experience! Say what you ask? Don’t get me wrong I have bought stuff online before (especially from Etsy) but I have never bought clothes for myself online before. I have looked a lot, but never took the plunge. And wouldn’t you know it I bought two of the same shirt just in different colours. Pretty boring I know but I had to start somewhere. Baby steps! I have a shirt similar to this and I wear it all the time so I know they will get a lot of use (if they fit right that is).

I am also treating myself to a week-long trip to Phoenix this month where we will be tailgating for my very first time! American friends: if you have any pointers on this they would be very much appreciated! We are going to the Arizona State vs Oregon State game and apparently their rivalry makes for a pretty good game. Hockey is Canada’s favourite past time but it is usually too cold to do anything crazy for it. The closest we have gotten is going to see a Heritage Classic game a couple years ago where I wore thermal leggings under snow pants, two hoodies, a winter jacket and a toque and still froze (the entire game was outside). We then went out to the bar afterwards in our outfits which was pretty hilarious.


Right after the Phoenix trip I leave for Whistler for a work conference however I somehow managed to talk my sister and my friend into tagging along with me so it is a work trip/girls get away so I am so excited for it!

Treat Yourself Tuesday #1





What is it about indulging that makes you feel so….indulgent? You know, that little voice in the back of your head saying “Hey maybe you shouldn’t have that second piece of tiramisu Tawny.” Psh…hater. Some days that voice just needs to be silenced by diving face first into cake, or buying that new leather jacket for Fall because you can already picture 5 different outfits that you can wear it with.  Whatever your poison, you deserve to treat yourself from time to time and Becky from Olives ‘n Wine hosts this weekly link up to celebrate just that. And frankly, I am all for it 🙂




So how have I been treating myself lately? Well for starters the tiramisu example didn’t just come out of nowhere… Brian and I went over to our friend’s house for dinner last night and brought tiramisu from Costco and it was unreal! So delicious. No I didn’t have two pieces but my one piece was pretty redonkulous.

Back in the day I had a pretty big obsession with shoes and currently this obsession has culminated in 2 closets and one under the bed storage bin full of miscellaneous shoes and boots. So it has been a really long time since I have treated myself to new footwear. Enter in my newest obsession:

Aren’t they amazing? I have been wearing these way more than I would like to admit but they are just so comfy and soft.

Another way I have been treating myself? Puppy kisses. Sorry the photo is so blurry he is pretty squirmy. No matter how bad of a day you are having our four legged friends always have a way to cheer us up don’t they?

I think what it comes down to is everyone deserves to treat themselves from time to time. That piece of cake isn’t going to kill you, just remember everything in moderation (except shoes…you can never have too many shoes ;)). So take a deep breath and relax. Go outside for a walk and enjoy nature, let a puppy lick your face, buy those new boots for fall sista you deserve it!
